Cleaning Up After a Bathroom Remodel: Dealing with Tile Dust

A bathroom remodel yields stunning results, but cutting tiles and mixing grout creates a dense, abrasive dust that coats every surface. This dust, if wiped improperly, acts like sandpaper and can permanently scratch your new chrome fixtures and glass shower doors.

Dry Extraction First

As with all construction cleaning, you must dry-vacuum everything first. Use a HEPA vacuum with a soft brush attachment to carefully vacuum the walls, the inside of the vanity, and the tub. Never use a dry rag to wipe the dust off chrome or glass, as the silica particles will cause micro-scratches.

Removing Grout Haze

Once the dust is vacuumed, you may notice a cloudy white film on your new tiles. This is 'grout haze'—a byproduct of the installation process. Standard floor cleaners will not remove it; they only smear it. You must use a specialized, acidic grout haze remover. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully, and ensure your bathroom is well-ventilated during application.
