New Home Cleaning: What to Sanitize Before Unpacking
Before you bring your family and belongings into a new house, make sure it is completely sanitized from top to bottom.
Walking into your newly purchased home or rental is exciting, but before you start opening boxes, you must consider who lived there before. Even if the previous owners left it 'broom clean,' a new home requires deep sanitization to ensure it is a safe, fresh environment for your family.
Start with the Kitchen and Bathrooms
You will be eating and bathing here on day one. Disinfect the inside of every kitchen cabinet and drawer before putting your dishes away. Sanitize the refrigerator shelves and run a cleaning cycle on the dishwasher. In the bathrooms, replace toilet seats if possible, or at least heavily disinfect them, along with the shower basin and all hardware.
Floors and Air
Carpets act as giant filters holding the previous owner's pet dander, skin cells, and dirt. Professional carpet extraction is highly recommended before placing your furniture. Finally, change all HVAC filters immediately to ensure you are breathing clean air, not the recycled dust of the previous occupants.
